Tupac Shakur’s Lyrics-Filled Notebooks Will Be Auctioned

Move over Genius! (just kidding!) Looks like someone has gotten hold of the lyrics of the late West Coast legendary rapper Tupac Shakur! 

According to Rolling Stone Magazine, three notebooks owned by Pac, containing handwritten lyrics, music video ideas and other notes will be auctioned for fans!
The auction house set to sell the items is Moment In Time, the same auction house that sold his hand-written letter from his time in pprison. The lyrics to songs like “16 on Death Row,” “It Ain’t Easy,” and “Keep Ya Head Up” are all within these notebooks. 

There currently isn’t a set price for the notebooks yet, because Moment In Time has said they might sell the pages separately. As a fan, I would personally rather see the whole notebook be sold together and not be ripped up. Stay tuned to The Spotlight for any info!

Rita Ora Sues Roc Nation

Looks like Hova’s house, Roc Nation has another artist looking to branch out because of differences. After Maybach Music Group rapper, Wale left their Management department last year, their British star Rita Ora has “filed a lawsuit that addresses the current state of Roc Nation and tests California’s famous “seven-year rule” on personal service contracts” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After becoming more known for its athletes that are signed to the label more than its artists, Rita says she has felt like an orphan and doesn’t feel the involvement in her career like she felt when first signed at the age of 18 in 2008. Her attorney, Howard King said, “Rita’s relationship with Roc Nation is irrevocably damaged.”

Let’s hope whatever comes of this issue that it ends soon because we need some new Rita Ora music!

Pusha T Named President of G.O.O.D. Music

Today is a very G.O.O.D. Day for Pusha T! According to Billboard, he’s been appointed the President of G.O.O.D. Music!

The Virginia rapper said when Kanye West offered him the job that his position will be “to manicure the label, make it profitable and be very business-oriented about it going forward in a manicured type of way.”
He also mentioned that, with him at the helm, Kanye will be able to focus more on the executive producer role for their roster of artists. He said,

“I think we’ll be getting the best out of him, executive producing projects that come from the label from here on out because he gets to really hone in as a producer. I’ll take care of all the logistics, the rallying of the troops, and so on and so forth. He don’t gotta be producer, A&R, rapper and everything. We’re all here to help and facilitate. I’m definitely stepping up for the job.”

He finished by saying to look out for new music from his forthcoming King Push album and, right now, it’s no celebrating the new position until “we see some real progress and really, just make things happen.” and that it’s all about him executing right now. Congrats to Push! We can’t wait to see what’s to come from the G.O.O.D. Music camp!

Melanie Fiona Is Pregnant!

Melanie Fiona is expecting her first child with her boyfriend, fellow R&B singer Jared Cotter!

The singer announced the pregnancy with a short video on Instagram showcasing her baby bump and song “I Want It All.” She captioned the video,

Killer Mike Running For State Representative of Georgia

From appearances on CNN to Real Time, Killer Mike’s penchant for politics runs deep. With a State Representative seat up for grabs in Georgia, he’s throwing his hat into the political fray. 

Mike said via Instagram. 

“In Atlanta Georgia there will be special election tomorrow for District 55. Former state representative Tyrone Brooks no longer sits in the seat. I would like as many people as possible to go to the polls and write in Michael Render. Why because if I win we win. Thank you now go vote”

Bow Wow Leaves Cash Money Records

Bow Wow is the latest rapper to cut contractual ties with Cash Money Records. Shad recently announced the split via his Facebook account. The rapper have been signed to the storied Southern rap imprint since 2009 but has yet to drop an album even though he has been frequently plugging his upcoming LP Underrated for years. 

According to Bow, the split was amicable. Clearly lack of support from the label to put out music is a major factor in Bow wanting to leave. This is the same gripe that has been brought up by CMR employees Lil Twist, Tyga and cash cow Lil Wayne in the recent past. This is the third Cash Money artist to jump ship in less than a year. Last July, Busta Rhymes left the label after spending nearly three unproductive years with Baby and Slim. In October, British R&B singer Jay Sean parted ways with CMR after six years with the New Orleans powerhouse, dropping three albums while with the label.
